These two new books invite the reader to explore and understand how landscapes are formed and to identify the different rocks used to build the monuments. Both books include a presentation of the geological history and of the close links between stones and humans. These include the famous flints of Grand Pressigny and Meusnes, clay and the ceramics industry, rocks used in construction, France's largest gas storage site, groundwater resources, and how wine grape varieties are selected according to geological criteria.
Each guidebook includes 22 particularly striking and educational sites to be discovered or seen from a different angle.
- Examples for the Touraine region include the white tufa rock of Bourré, the confluence of the Loire and Vienne rivers, the falun sedimentary rock of Channay-sur-Lathan, the marshes of Taligny and the alluvial terrace of Bourgeuil.
- For Loir-et-Cher, examples include the cave dwellings of Trôo, the lime kiln quarry, the ponds of Saint-Viâtre, the Orchaise cave and fountain, the capture of the Boulon by the Loir river, the limestone of Beauce, and the sands of the Perche region.
The books help promote the inventory of France's geological heritage to which the authors contributed. They point out the interesting features while providing all the information needed to make them accessible to a wider public.

The Geological Curiosities Collection
The collection, which already comprises 23 titles, introduces a wide public to the geology of French regions in the form of about twenty sites selected for their pedagogical interest. These discovery trails are accompanied by a brief history and double-page spreads on flora, fauna, architecture and culture.
